BEAUTY. NATURE. WORK.

  • VISION: A FARMSTEAD WITH CULTURAL CREATION AT ITS HEART!

To honour the greatness of the Master and his works, a modern* museum is being built in the Purvītis family home “Vecjauži”, dedicated to the legacy of Vilhelms Purvītis.

* “A museum is a permanent institution that serves the public by studying, collecting, preserving, interpreting and exhibiting tangible and intangible heritage, and its purpose is not for profit. Museums promote diversity and sustainability, as well as are open, accessible and inclusive. • MISSION: TO HELP THE BEAUTY TO BE REVEALED!

The mission of Purvītis Museum: To honour the personality and legacy of Vilhelms Purvītis by developing the artist’s family home “Vecjauži” into an international centre of creativity to promote the well-being of society in interaction with nature, art and culture.

  • VALUES:

BEAUTY – result, harmony, vertical
NATURE – context, a man in the world
WORK – process, diligence, excellence

  • MANIFESTO:

We will do.

We will call people from near and far
and we will do.
Together we will create.

We will do nature.
We will do an apple tree orchard, we will do a forest,
we will do a flower in the meadow.
Silence in the evening.
Peace we will do.

We will strive for the beautiful.
“Hands must be trained, minds must be awakened.”
We will do all things harmonious.
We will do to make Latvia’s beauty shine through.

We will put a white shirt on and dig the earth.
We will dig the earth like no one before us has ever dug it.
We will do the museum, we will do the temple.

And our work will create us.
The works will be our signposts.
We will do ourselves.

We will do.

The objects in the collection of Purvītis Museum form a compelling narrative about the Purvītis family home “Vecjauži”, where the artist spent the first 14 years of his life and formed his personality, the Purvītis family and the life and values of Purvītis himself, revealing the stages of the Master’s creative evolution and personal development.
